Woman arrested for allegedly yelling racial slur at Asian woman in Berkeley

A 56-year-old Berkeley, California woman was arrested after she allegedly yelled racial slurs at an Asian woman. According to Berkeleyside, Antoinette Archimede was charged with a hate crime and other misdemeanors for the Friday incident.

According to Police, the incident began around 4 pm when the Asian woman and her friend both in their 30s walked past Archimede who was sitting on the sidewalk near Telegraph and Durant avenues. The Asian woman made eye contact with Archimede who allegedly “cursed her and her Asian ethnicity,” according to police. Archimede allegedly then threw a water bottle at them and walked away.

She was arrested shortly after and was charged with “battery, using offensive words in public, and the hate crime of willfully threatening a person based on their perceived characteristics.”

Antoinette Archimede was arrested earlier this year for allegedly making hateful comments about “people of Mexican descent.” She has more than 60 criminal cases listed in the county’s online docket system. Many people in the area that know her said this was a failure of Alameda County to help her who has mental health problems.
