What an amazing fight UFC Strawweight Champion Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczky put on at UFC 248. After the fight was over, many fans declared it the greatest woman’s MMA fight in history and it’s hard to argue with that. Both women gave it their all in the classic fight which left both fighters battered and bruised. The fight went the full five rounds and went to the judges where Weili won by split decision.
What’s crazy is the before and after of Jedrzejczyk’s face. Look how swole that forehead got, it’s unreal.
Check out some of the fight highlights below.
Zhang Weili is the first Chinese and East Asian champion in UFC history. She became the champion after she beat then-champion Jessica Andrade earlier this year. Jedrzejczyk was the former UFC strawweight champion and many considered her the greatest woman’s strawweight fighter in the world. But the way Weili is fighting, she probably will be considered the greatest woman’s strawweight if she keeps beating people.
After Weili and Jedrzejcyzk signed up to fight each other, things got heated between the two in the lead up to the fight. Joanna shared a photoshopped promotional UFC fight photo of the two on her Instagram stories that took a shot at Weili over the coronavirus. The photo had Joanna wearing a gas mask implying Weili had the coronavirus because she’s Chinese.
Consequently, Weili responded back on her Instagram stating “to make fun of tragedy is a true sign of ones character.”
All was quiet from the two that is until fight week. According to reporter Adam Hill, Weili said she was concerned that Joanna couldn’t make weight because of her “plastic surgery.”
There were reports that Joanna had a hard time making weight for her last fight but it seemed it was more of a shot at Joanna getting breast implants.
Furthermore, during their face-off, Weili told Joanna to shut up much to the laughter of many in the audience.
Then they fought on March 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and what a glorious fight it was. After the fight, Weili called for unity to fight the coronavirus.
Congratulations to Weili in her first title fight. She remains the champion and it looks like she’ll be keeping that belt for a very long time.
