Two convicted in the murder of Shuo Zeng during robbery in Oakland, CA

On Tuesday, a jury in Oakland, CA found two men guilty in the robbery and murder of a 34-year-old engineer Shuo Zeng in 2019, reports Kron 4. Byron Reed was found guilty of second-degree murder and Kejuan Wiggins was found guilty of robbery and causing great bodily injury. Additionally, Wiggins was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter on Wednesday.

On December 31, 2019, Zeng was working at a Starbucks on Mountain Boulevard and Montclair District when Wiggins snatched his laptop and ran off, according to authorities. Wiggins jumped into an awaiting car driven by Reed and the car fled but Zeng hung onto the car. Wiggins kicked Zeng ejecting him from the car causing the car to run over Zeng.

Zeng was transported to the hospital where he passed away.

Byron Reed faces 15-30 years in prison while Wiggins faces 12 years. A third suspect, Javon Lee who was the lookout pleaded no contest to robbery before trial. He faces between 2 – 10 years in prison. The three defendants will be sentenced on January 7th.
