Ordering a hitman isn’t the easiest thing to do. They’re not exactly advertising their services and there is no rating system. So the quality of their service and level of professionalism can be quite a surprise. That’s what one Chinese businessman found out the hard way. Now, real estate company owner Tan Youhui is in jail because he ordered a lemon for a hitman.
According to Shanghaiist, Tan Youhui ordered a hitman to take out his business competitor surnamed Wei in 2013. Wei had filed a civil lawsuit against Youhui so Youhui did what any reasonable businessman would do and ordered a hit on the guy. Youhui paid a man named Xi Guangon 2 million yuan ($282,000) to take out Wei.
However, Wei decided he didn’t want to personally do the hit and paid half his fee to Mo Tianxiang to take out Wei. Meanwhile, Xi went back to Hui and asked for another 1 million yuan ($141,000) but Hui being the smart businessman that he is told Xi he would get the money once Wei was dead.
During this time, Mo went to another man named Yang Kangsheng and promised him 270,000 yuan ($38,126) upfront and 500,000 yuan ($70,604) once Wei was murdered.
Yang, in turn, hired another man named Yang Guangsheng and told him that he’ll pay him 200,000 yuan ($28,241) to kill Wei and another 500,000 ($70,604) once the job was done.
But Yang Guangsheng did not want to kill Wei so he hired Ling Xiansi to kill Wei and offered him 100,000 yuan ($14,000) once Wei was killed.
Ling did not kill Wei and instead had a better idea. He reached out to the victim, Wei, and tried to convince him to fake his own death. But Wei decided to go to the cops instead.
So now all six guys are in prison. The Chinese court in the southern region of Guangxi sentenced Tan to 5 years, Xi to 3 years and 6 months, both Yangs to 3 years and 3 months, Mo to 3 years, and finally Ling to 2 years and 7 months.
If hiring a hitman, make sure he’s licensed and get some good word of mouth before handing money over.
