San Jose woman followed home and raped

An Asian woman living in San Jose, California was followed home and raped on May 8th, reports Mercury News. Police arrested 20-year-old Cristobal Fuentas-Melara for his alleged involvement in the crime.

Police were called to the St. Claire Apartments on the 300 block of South First Street around 2:45 am on a sexual assault call.

Authorities said the victim was outside her home when she was approached by a man who made uncomfortable mumbling sexually aggressive remarks at her. She went inside the apartment and the man followed her in where he assaulted and raped her. A security camera captured the attack.

Based on the footage, they were able to ID a suspect and arrested Cristobal Fuentas-Melara two days later. He has been charged with rape, sexual assault, and kidnapping crimes. He’s in custody on $500,000 bail.

Police said although the victim is Asian, there’s no evidence at this time that it was a racially motivated attack.
