Pakistani Uber eats driver killed during alleged carjacking in Washington D.C.

A 66-year-old Pakistani immigrant Uber eats driver was killed during an alleged carjacking in Washington D.C. Mohammad Anwar from Springfield, Virginia was killed a block from Nationals Park on Tuesday afternoon, reports the Washington Post. Two teenage girls ages 13 and 15 were arrested and charged with felony murder and armed carjacking. A bystander caught the incident on camera. Warning the video is graphic.

The video shows a struggle between the three in Anwar’s car near N and Van streets SE. The girls are inside while Anwar is half outside from the driver’s side. The engine starts and the car takes off with Anwar hanging onto the side. The bystander follows around half a block and finds the car overturned. Anwar’s body can be seen limp on the sidewalk.

The alleged carjacking began outside the Navy Yard Metro Station. Authorities did not say how the two got into the car and what happened in the beginning. However, DC police detective Chad Leo said one of the girls was armed with a stun gun. After the car took off with Anwar hanging to the side it crashed into parked vehicles and a metal rack flipping the car onto the passenger side. Anwar was ejected from the car and suffered from broken bones and a head injury. Anwar passed away at the hospital.

The two teens were pulled out of the mangled car by National Guards who were nearby.

The names of the girls were not released because of their ages. But the 15-year-old is from Fort Washington, Maryland while the 13-year-old is from D.C.

Mohammad Anwar was killed while out on a run for Uber eats. He was the financial provider for his family. He is survived by his wife and three children and four grandchildren. A Gofundme has been set up to help assist the family and pay for his funeral expenses.

Mohammad Anwar was a hard-working Pakistani immigrant who came to the United States to create a better life for him and his family. He was simply at work yesterday evening, providing for his family, when his life was tragically taken in an appalling act of violence. The details are still being investigated, however we know that Anwar was working on an UberEats delivery when two assailants attempted to carjack him in Navy Yard.

Anwar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who always provided a smile when you needed one. He leaves behind a family, near and far, who cherish, love, and miss him dearly.
