Oh no! John Cho’s latest film “The Grudge” gets an “F”

John Cho’s parents must be super embarrassed right now. How will they ever show their faces at church after this debacle? It’s not every day their child gets an “F,” but to get one so publicly, such shame. Unfortunately, John Cho’s latest movie “The Grudge” scored an “F” rating in the CinemaScore audience poll, reports The Wrap. Thus, “The Grudge” becomes only the 20th movie to score an “F” in CinemaScore’s history.

The latest “The Grudge” is the second reboot of the Japanese horror movie. Originally created by Takashi Shimizu and released in 2002, the movie became an instant horror classic. It told the story of a vengeful ghost who kills and curses the new residents of the home she was murdered in. In 2004, the movie was remade into an American movie starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. It was a hit and spawned two sequels.

However, the latest movie starring John Cho isn’t an actual reboot. Instead, it’s more of a sidequel, a sequel that occurs at the same time as the original but in a different location and with different characters. According to IMDB, John Cho plays Peter Spencer, a real estate agent, who stumbles into the haunted house.

But John Cho couldn’t save this turd of a movie. It was crapped on by critics and now fans. It managed to do what only 19 other films before it was able to achieve by receiving an “F” from the audience.

CinemaScore tallies the grade from audiences on a movie’s opening day. The company was created in 1979 but it wasn’t until 1999 that a movie received an “F.” That honor goes to the Ewan McGregor movie “Eye of the Beholder.”

According to Collider here’s a list of the rest of the “F” movies.

  • Doctor T and the Women (2000)
  • Lost Souls (2000)
  • Lucky Numbers (2000)
  • Fear Dot Com (2002)
  • Solaris (2002)
  • In the Cut (2003)
  • Darkness (2004)
  • Alone in the Dark (2005)
  • Wolf Creek (2005)
  • The Wicker Man (2006)
  • Bug (2006)
  • I Know Who Killed Me (2007)
  • Disaster Movie (2008)
  • The Box (2009)
  • The Devil Inside (2012)
  • Killing Them Softly (2012)
  • Silent House (2012)
  • mother! (2017)

And now “The Grudge” (2020) joins this rarefied air. As for its box office, it’s not too bad. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie is set to make $11-13 million in its opening weekend.
