A 37-year-old food delivery worker was killed in Queens, New York on Thursday around 8 pm when a car crashed into an outdoor dining area. Xing Long Lin was on a scooter waiting for an order in the bike lane when he was struck, reports CBS New York News.
According to the police, a 60-year-old woman with her car was trying to get around an Uber that was moving slowly. Authorities said she was moving at “an apparent high rate of speed” when she lost control. The driver ended up crashing into the outdoor dining area of Rosatoro on 35 Street near Ditmars Boulevard. The car struck Lin first before hitting two other cars and a tree which stopped it from going further into the restaurant.
Lin was found unconscious and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to KCTV 5, a 32-year-old woman was also injured in both her legs by flying debris but is in stable condition.
The driver is in serious but stable condition.
No arrest have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
A Gofundme has been setup to help the family of Xing Long Lin.
“A Chinese immigrant, he came to this country 14 years ago to provide for his family. He leaves behind his wife Li Chen, their 5 year old daughter and 9 year old son, all of whom live in Elmhurst,” the Gofundme said. “He had started working as a deliveryman for Watawa Sushi on Ditmars just one and a half months ago. This new job was vital as Xing was the sole income-earner of his household. He tried to work as much as he could so he could provide enough for his family here as well as his mother and father who live in China. He loved music, his family, and taking care of those he loved.”
