A missing Chinese national woman who was hiking Yosemite Fall was found dead, according to SF Gate. The body of 41-year-old “Alice” Yu Xie was found at the base of Upper Yosemite Fall. It is unclear what led to the woman’s death.
Xie was reported missing on January 15, 2021. She arrived at Yosemite National Park by Yarts bus from Mariposa, California on January 14, 2021.
Her body was found on January 16th the same day Yosemite National Park put out a missing person’s notice of her. But they didn’t reveal they found her body until a week later for some reason.
A hiker by the name of Anna Horn passed by Xie while she was coming down from Yosemite Falls. They exchanged greetings and Horn told SF Gate, that Xie was “all smiles.” It is unclear what exactly happened to Xie because authorities have not revealed any information but it is believed she fell off the top of the waterfall.
“She seemed happy that day to me,” Horn wrote on Facebook. “In awe of the falls, views, etc. I am of the opinion that she fell by accident … Breaks my heart.”
According to “Off the Wall: Death in Yosemite” author, Michael Ghiglieri, Xie is the first woman to die while hiking Upper Yosemite Fall.
