It looks like “Linsanity” is going to take place in another country. NBA free agent, Jeremy Lin will be playing in the Chinese Basketball Association after signing with the Beijing Ducks, according to Bleacher Report. This comes after Lin had a hard time signing with an NBA team. The terms of his contract have not been disclosed but there are rumors he’ll be making $3 million a year.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Lin first thanked everyone who supported him, including the NBA and his family, in the last nine years before he expressed his joy in playing for the CBA. “To challenge stereotypes, make history, rep Asians at the NBA level and pave the path as others have done for me has been an absolute privilege,” he wrote. “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for each person who has been with me each step of the way.
“Equally excited for this next step with the Beijing Ducks! I always knew my path would go through the CBA solely bc I knew how much of an honor it would be to hoop in front to fall my Chinese fans. I’m here now and there is more history to be made!”
The 31-year-old professional basketball player had quite a year. He became the first Asian American to win an NBA championship when the Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors. However, that excitement didn’t last long as Jeremy Lin came to the realization that his career in the NBA may be coming to an end. At a church in Taiwan over the summer, he broke down in tears talking about his NBA future. “And every year it gets harder,” Lin said. “And in English, there’s a saying and it says once you’ve hit rock bottom the only way is up. But rock bottom just seems to keep getting more and more rock bottom for me.
“So free agency has been tough. Cause I feel like in some ways the NBA’s kind of given up on me.”
This doesn’t mean Jeremy Lin’s time in the NBA is over but it seems like a fitting end. Hope you catch that magic again. Good luck in China playing for the Beijing Ducks, Jeremy Lin.
