Japanese woman hid mother’s body in freezer for 10 years because she didn’t want to be evicted

A Japanese woman in Tokyo said she hid her mother’s body in a freezer because she feared she would be evicted from their apartment, reports the Guardian. 48-year-old Yumi Yoshino was arrested and held on “suspicion of abandoning and hiding a female body” on January 27, 2021. She was caught after a cleaner found the dead body and notified police.

According to the police, Yumi Yoshino told them she hid her mother’s dead body in the freezer in the apartment after she passed away 10 years ago. Because her mother’s name was on the apartment lease she feared she would be forced out of the apartment so she did what she did.

Fast forward to 10 years later, Yoshino was kicked out of the apartment for failing to pay rent. The landlord sent a cleaner to clean the house and the cleaner found the dead body in the freezer.

If what Yoshino is saying is true, her mother was 60-years-old when she passed away. However, police have not determined the cause and time of the mother’s death.
