Indian student killed in Canada

A 23-year-old Indian student who was living in Canada was murdered yesterday in Nova Scotia province’s Truro town, reports the Tribune India. Prabhjot Singh Khatri was killed outside his apartment after returning from work as a taxi driver.

“He was coming back from his job when he was killed by some unidentified persons outside his apartment. He was working as a local taxi driver,” Jatinder Kumar Deep Singh, a friend of Prabhjot said.

Prabhjot Singh Khatri moved from India to Canada in 2017 on a student visa. He was living with his sister and her husband for the last four years.

He was murdered with “sharp weapons” according to the Tribune India. The victim’s friend, Agampal Singh told the paper there was nothing stolen.

“Nothing was robbed,” Singh said. “Even his phone was in his pocket. We don’t have any idea why this happened.”

Police confirmed a body was found outside a Robbie Street apartment building but did not release the victim’s name. Deputy Chief of Truro Police Service Robert Hearn said they are investigating and there was no risk to the general public.
