Hacksaw Jim grandma to donate nearly $1 million of her Gofundme money

The Chinese grandmother that put the beat down on her assailant with a 2×4 will be donating all of her Gofundme money to the Asian American community to fight racism. The Gofundme for 76-year-old Xiao Zhen Xie currently stands at $905,996. Initially, the Gofundme was targeting $50,000 but her story went viral and everyone just loved her bravery which led to over 30,000 people ponying up some money to help the grandmother who was physically and mentally injured.

When we visited our grandma yesterday and today her overall mental and physical health has improved. Her eye is no longer swelled to the point of not being able to open it. She is now starting to feel optimistic again and is in better spirits. She said we must not summit to racism and we must fight to the death if necessary. She also stated multiple times to donate all the funds generated in this GoFundMe back to the Asian American community to combat racism. She insists on making this decision saying this issue is bigger than Her. This is my grandma, grandpa, and our family’s decision. We hope everyone can understand our decision.

Last week Xiao Zhen Xie was attacked by an assailant on Market St. and Charles J. Brenham Place in San Francisco during the morning. She was just trying to cross the street when her assailant punched her in the left eye. She went into defense mode and grabbed a stick and fought back. A reporter caught the aftermath and recorded video of the grandmother wielding a wooden plank as a man was wheeled off in a stretcher.

The man on the stretcher is 39-year-old Steven Jenkins. He is accused of not only assaulting Xiao but another Asian elder right before this incident. He also allegedly attacked 83-year-old Vietnamese American Ngoc Pham on 7th and Market minutes before he allegedly struck Xie.

A Gofundme has been setup to help Ngoc recover from his serious injuries.

As for Steven Jenkins, he faces charges of assault, battery, and elder abuse. According to NBC Bay Area News, the judge denied his bail due to public safety concerns.
