A surveillance video caught a woman attacking the husband and wife owners of a Cleveland beauty shop. According to Fox 8, the incident occurred at Chic Plus Beauty Supply store on Lorain Avenue on Friday around 5 pm. The owner’s son David Jo said the customer attacked his parents after they told her she couldn’t leave with her items after her pre-paid debit card was declined.
“May I please have my items, please? I will leave and get out of your hair,” the woman can be heard in the video. “You will never see me in your store again. All I’m trying to do is get my items, that’s it. I’m not being belligerent.”
The husband owner told her that she couldn’t take the items because her card was declined.
“We cannot give you anything because it’s not cleared,” he said which can be heard on the video.
Jo said that set off the customer and she started to attack his parents.
“My father explained it to her very clearly that the reason you’re not able to walk out with the product is… There’s no money in your account. The card was denied, therefore, obviously, you can’t take the product out of the store and that seemed to set her off,” Jo said.
The surveillance video shows the woman destroying displays off the counter before she starts attacking the owners. The woman knocks down the man and drags the mother by her hair.
“I just saw my mom today since it happened and she’s all bruised up, her hair’s been pulled out, she has bruises all over her body… My dad’s mouth was all bloodied up,” Jo explained. “I don’t think anybody expects their parents to get brutally beaten like that and them having to watch a video and not being able to do anything about it… It’s pretty tough, I felt very helpless.”
The Jo family immigrated from South Korea to Cleveland 25 years ago. The mother and father have been operating their beauty shop for the last five years.
Cleveland police are looking for the woman in the video. She likely faces assault and vandalism charges.
