It seems the BTS wave just keeps getting bigger because their new album is smashing records. “Map of the Soul: 7” is set to drop on February 21 but it already has sold millions of copies, according to BTS’s label “Big Hit Entertainment,” reports Forbes. In its first week of preorders, “Map of the Soul: 7” has sold 3.42 million copies which sets the record for preorders sold.
The old record holder for preorders sold was none other than BTS. Their last album, “Map of the Soul: Persona” sold 2.685 million preorders in its first week. That record beat out the old record which was held by none other than BTS with “Love Yourself: Answer” which sold 1.511 million preorders.
BTS’s latest album was going to be huge hit anyway with their fervent fanbase called the BTS Army. However, even so, this preorder number is unbelievably impressive nonetheless. The trailer for the album already racked up 40 million views.
The number seven is a significant number for the all-boy K-pop band. Besides having seven members, this year marks the seventh anniversary since their debut.
“The 7 years we have been together, always exists in 7 members of BTS,” RM said in an intro video at the 2019 MAMA show, according to Time.
There are four different versions of the album that comes with the CD. Besides the CD, fans will get a 20-page mini book, a 36-page photo book, and eight photo cards, coloring paper, and of course a poster.
One person who’s definitely buying all four albums is pro wrestler and actor John Cena. On “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” he reiterated that he was part of the BTS Army, reports Vulture.
“Not only is the choreography, the development of personalities, the whole entertainment they put on spectacular, young people are listening to their music and they’re sending a good message through their music,” he said. “I think that’s really cool when you have the popularity and you choose to use your voice for something good. I think that’s a plus.”
Most importantly, it looks like it will be another great year financially for the biggest boy band in the world. Last year they made $57 million on the strength of their tour that generated over $150 million.
