Baby shot dead in Oakland shoot out

A baby was killed in a shoot-out in Oakland, California on Saturday, reports ABC 7 News. The shooting occurred a little after 2:00 pm on Interstate 880. A caller told police a gunfight broke out between two drivers. A 23-month-old boy named Jasper Wu was killed when a stray bullet hit him. Wu was inside his family’s car and heading home when he was struck in the head.

“I’ve got another call in saying there’s a child bleeding from the head,” CHP officers can be heard in an audio recording.

Wu’s mother was behind the wheel while Jasper was sleeping in his car seat. Two more kids were in the car along with Wu’s aunt. Wu was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“Evidence collected on the northbound side of the freeway may indicate the victims were not targeted and the child passenger was struck by a stray bullet,” CHP detectives said.

The victim’s family is asking the perps to turn themselves in.
