An Asian woman was assaulted by a man with a hammer and robbed while out on a walk-in Downtown, Los Angeles. Powerlifter Daniella Means from Hong Kong said she thought she was going to be killed and that she begged for her life during the attack. Means is currently in Los Angeles helping open up “Hybrid Gym” Los Angeles, reports SCMP.
The suspect struck her face with a hammer leaving her with a broken orbital bone and nose. The alleged suspect was later arrested and Means said she was able to pick him out of a six-man lineup.
The incident occurred on Tuesday around 7 am while Means was out walking her dog “Butch.” Means said a man came up to her and asked for her bag and phone. Confused, she said “what, no” which caused the man to strike her across the head.
“And in one strike he managed to break both my orbital bone and my nose which caused me to fall to the ground on my hands and knees with blood just gushing from my face,” she said. “All I could do was to beg him not to hurt me or to hurt butch.”
Means said the man stood over her and demanded her belongings at which point she did. She said the man then apologized before fleeing. After he left, she ran and found a couple who stopped and called 911.
“I can’t tell you how grateful I am they were there for me at my time of need,” she said. “It really restored my faith in humanity after what had just happened to me.”
Paramedics arrived and transported Means to the hospital where she was convinced she lost her eye. But fortunately, her eye is intact. Police arrived and took a description of the man and they were able to catch him. Apparently, according to Means, the man was arrested an hour later after he assaulted another person. Police found the hammer and Means belongings.
“I’ve been trying to figure out how I feel, how traumatized I am,” Daniella Means said. “It was scary, I’ve never been scared for my life before. I never had to beg like that before. It was f**king terrifying. But I’m okay and I will be okay.”
