44-year-old Terrell Coffer was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man on the BART train near the Warm Springs/South Fremont Station in Fresno, CA, reports CBS SF Bay Area. The incident occurred on Friday before noon. One witness told the news station that the victim was an Asian man who looked like he was in his 50s. However, according to transit officials, the man is actually 69-years-old. The victim suffered from multiple stab wounds.
A witness, Anthony Montemar told ABC 7, that the victim, who he described as an Asian male came up to him and asked for help.
“There was a lot of blood coming out of this guy,” he said. “He was bloody, two neck stab wound, abdomen stab wound. He was bleeding all over. He was a little incoherent. but he pointed at that car that he came out of.”
Montemar said he looked at the direction the victim was pointing and saw a man running in the opposite direction. Montemar then helped the victim to the lead car where the train operator called the police.
Authorities believe the suspect and the victim did not know each other prior to the incident.
“From my understanding, from what it looked like, the (suspect) kind of flipped out and just stabbed the (victim),” Montemar said. “I don’t know what the altercation was. They looked completely separate.”
The victim was taken to the hospital where he remains in stable but critical condition.
A BART community officer spotted Terrell Coffer on the platform and detained him. The suspect was taken into custody and placed at the Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide.
