According to Politico, ex-New York Mayoral candidate, Andrew Yang will no longer identify as a Democrat and instead start his own third party. He is expected to make the announcement with the release of his new book, “Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy” on October 5th. It is unclear what his third-party platform will be based on but his book is an indictment of “politicians whose incentives have become divorced from the people they supposedly serve,” according to the book’s publisher Crown. Yang wants to fix the “era of institutional failure” so present in the United States.
Andrew Yang came to prominence by running for president of the United States under his UBI plan that would have given every American citizen 18 years and older $1000 a month. Although he garnered much enthusiasm, he couldn’t secure enough votes in the democratic party primary. He then went on to run for Mayor of New York but also failed to secure enough votes.
