A 73-year-old woman is recovering at home after she was assaulted and robbed outside a south Sacramento supermarket, reports CBS Sacramento. The incident occurred at “People Supermarket” on Friday while the victim was in the parking lot heading inside to shop for groceries. The victim said the man initially asked her for money but she told him that she didn’t have any. The man then followed her and pushed her to the ground and stole her purse before fleeing on foot.
The grandmother was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. She was released and is recuperating at home.
“It’s hard. It’s hard seeing her like that,” Tien, the victim’s son said. “I’m a little upset right now – just pretty speechless at times.”
The victim’s daughter, Marilyn said her mother just got comfortable leaving the house because of an illness. But now she’s “just emotionally drained ….”
Although there is surveillance video of the incident, police do not have a clear picture of the suspect. They are investigating the matter as a crime of opportunity.
