Authorities are looking for 30-year-old Lauren Cho who went missing Monday afternoon, reports Hi-Desert Star. Cho moved from New Jersey to California about eight months ago and settled in Morongo Valley with her friend Cody Orell. The two used to date and moved to California together.
On June 28th around 3 pm, Cho disappeared in the area of Hoopa Road and Ben Mar Trail. Orell, who was the last person to see her, told Hi-Desert Star that she disappeared when he briefly went into the tour bus the two crossed the country with.
“There was a 10 minute window there and she evaporated,” Orell said. He said he searched for her before calling 911.
“I searched all in the hills and no tracks, anywhere,” Orell said.
The Sheriff’s report said they received a call that Cho was missing around 5:13 pm that day. According to authorities she got upset and walked into the hills between Morongo Valley and Yucca Valley. The report said Orell and her friends searched for her before calling for law enforcement.
Officers found all of Orell and their friends’ tracks but nothing of hers. Orell believes she might have gotten in a vehicle with someone. He said she told him she was going to meet someone on Sunday but didn’t pry.
Lauren Cho was a talented singer who toured Europe with choirs as a teen. She graduated from Westminister Choir College with a degree in music education and taught high school kids. But she was not happy with her job and moved out west with Orell on his tour bus.
“Lauren wanted a different life. She wanted to move from the East Coast and taste freedom,” Orell said. “She quit her job and moved into the bus with me.”
The two settled in a small community called Bombay Beach at the Salton Sea. She bought an old school bus and wanted to convert it into a food truck. Cho was working as a private chef before she disappeared.
Lauren Cho was last seen wearing a yellow T-shirt and jean shorts. She didn’t take her phone, food, or water with her.
Sheriff’s received calls of a woman matching her description at a restaurant with a man in Yucca Valley.
Authorities also found a body north of Desert Hog Springs on Thursday but they have not released any info about the body. As of now, Cho is considered voluntarily missing and foul play is not suspected.
