22-year-old Indian-American woman dies from Astroworld incident

Another Astroworld concert attendant passed away days after she was critically injured during the Friday show. 22-year-old Bharti Shahani died on Wednesday but was declared brain dead after she was hospitalized, reports ABC 13 News. Bharti was rushed to the hospital after she suffered multiple heart attacks after she was crushed by the crowd. She attended the concert with her sister Namrata Shahani and cousin Mohit Bellani but the trio lost each other when the crowd rushed to the front.

“Once one person fell, people started toppling like dominos. It was like a sinkhole. People were falling on top of each other,” Bellani said. “There were like layers of bodies on the ground, like two people thick. We were fighting to come up to the top and breathe to stay alive.”

Namrata added, “For the first time in her life she just wanted to have fun, and that was taken from her.”

Shahani Bharti was a Texas A&M University senior who was studying electronics systems engineering.

“She was the backbone of the family,” her father said.

Bharti is the ninth person to have died from the chaos during the Astroworld Festival.

A Gofundme has been set up to help Bharti’s family financially during these difficult times.
