Bad news! Hasan Minhaj’s show the “Patriot Act” over at Netflix just got canceled. This comes after six seasons of the political comedy show which premiered in October 2018, reports Deadline.
“What a run, @patriotact has come to an end. I go to work with the best writers, producers, researcher, and animators in the game,” Minhaj tweeted. “My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. TY to @Netflix and everyone who watched. Now it’s time to return these screens to Best Buy.”
The show garnered several awards including a Peabody in 2019 and an Emmy for Outstanding Motion Design. Minhaj got to host his own show after he gained attention for his role as a correspondent on another political show The Daily Show. But the “Patriot Act” was different from The Daily Show with Minhaj giving like a comedic Ted Talk ranging from politics to shoes. He was also one of the few South Asians to have his own show.
It’s truly a sad day and others are mourning as well.
It is unclear why the “Patriot Act” was canceled because Netflix doesn’t hand out ratings.
