20-year-old Laos American shot and killed in New Haven, CT

A 20-year-old Asian-American woman was shot and killed in New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Laos American Mariyah Inthirath, reports the New Haven Register.

According to police, they received a gunfire call on Saturday around 7:40 pm on Sheffield Avenue in the Newhallville neighborhood. Police responded to the crime scene and secured the area. Shortly after, the victim was “dropped off” at Yale-New Haven Hospital by a “private car,” reports Patch. She was suffering from one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim’s mother, Miylena Inthirath told the New Haven Register, her daughter was her best friend. Mariyah has three brothers she leaves behind. Miylena said her daughter’s passion was music and that she wanted to be a model.
